i don’t know about y’all, but every so often i watch DUMB tv shows. seriously. DUMB. but every so often something great comes out of those DUMB tv shows. for example; i had the coolest idea after watching a marathon of TLC’s “say yes to the dress”. it’s a show about brides-to-be searching for that perfect dress for their wedding. i know, it’s awfully girly of me, but i just can’t help it, i like dresses :) i noticed how many of the brides were shopping on a budget. at the same time as i was watching the show, i was perusing craigslist (yes, i was being utterly unproductive) and noticed the amount of wedding dresses that were listed and re-listed. i came to the conclusion that brides want a good deal but many of them don’t think to purchase a used dress from anywhere other than a bridal store and there are TONS of brides out there who need to sell their used dresses. so why not open up a 2nd chance bridal store?! how fun would that be? People are getting hitched all the time, especially in this area. i just think it would be a top notch service to provide brides and i’m amazed that there isn’t one here already…
GutterFlower Bridal - i want to call it GutterFlower because that name highlights the fact that the dresses aren’t brand spanking new but that there is also a charm in that very fact. kind of like the island for lost toys, GutterFlower values each dress that comes in the door because they’ve still got so much love to give.
mission: fulfilling the frugal bride’s wedding fantasy and giving used wedding dresses a 2nd chance to shine!
vision: GutterFlower Bridal will be either a consignment boutique or will purchase used wedding items outright to re-sell. the atmosphere will be light and easy yet professional. i want the shopping experience to be sophisticated yet fun. the decor will be champagne/blush/gold in baroque style and the store would smell like cake (think marie antoinette). As soon as the bride enters the room, she’s greeted like a close girlfriend and offered champagne. she’ll be seated and interviewed about her wedding and what shape/style/color she’s looking for in a dress. then they get started. i want the inventory to be VERY reasonably priced, however, i want to give brides who are selling their items a fair price.
product: i want to carry any kind of used wedding items i can find
- dresses
- sash’s
- shoes
- veils
- jewelry
- wedding sets
services:
- champagne
- appointments with your favorite consultant
- i think it would be nice to have a couple preachers/bishops on standby to bless the used items for the brides who are religious and who might have a hard time with the thought that it’s a used item and somebody else’s ju-ju is all over it…
- referrals to other bridal services
marketing:
- participating in bridal shows!!!
- cross promotion with other local businesses (cake stores, wine shops, stationary businesses, people with cool houses that the bridal party could rent out, things like that)
- referral programs
- seasonal sales
- commercials
- social networking
this little business really wouldn’t cost much to start, especially if it was run as a consignment shop. the over head would basically be the location, utilities and paperwork.

Brand new wedding dress!!!! I paid $550!!!!!!! This dress has never been worn! It’s strapless and size US4. The corset lace up back allows sizing to go up or down about 1 whole size. ( so basically it can be used as a size 2, 4, or 6) This dress is absolutely beautiful! It has lots of beading on the top and throughout the bottom. I found another dress that I couldn’t live without so my loss is your gain. Please call or text 208- two five one -1327
